Project Update
Week of June 18, 2012 - DPW has repaved 17th Street between Dolores Street and Bryant Street. The contractor continues curb ramp work on 17th between Potrero Avenue and Mississippi Street. 
Project Information
The San Francisco Department of Public Works (DPW) is repaving 17th Street from Dolores Street to Bryant Street and Potrero Avenue to Mississippi Street. The section of roadway between Potrero Avenue and Bryant Street will not be repaved under this contract. That section of roadway was repaved a few years ago. The entire project is expected to take approximately 6 months to complete.
DPW will install new curb ramps along 17th Street at several intersections. The curb ramps will meet ADA guidelines and will ease travel for pedestrians in the area. Once the curb ramp work has been completed on a few blocks, crews will then begin preparations to repave. The contractor will replace any damaged sections of street base which support the asphalt roadway.
Once the curb ramp work has been completed, crews will begin to replace damaged sections of the concrete street base which is located underneath the asphalt roadway. The contractor will saw-cut, excavate, and re-pour new street base prior to repaving a block. Street resurfacing will require the contractor "grind" the exisiting surface off the roadway. Crews will return a few days after the roadway has been "ground" to repave the block. During repaving driveway access may not be possible for approximately 2 hours while crews allow the asphalt enough time to cool down.
