The Office of Communications and Public Affairs keeps the public informed of the department's services, projects and programs through mass media, social media, and other community outreach activities. The team provides outreach to resident, business and community groups; maintains DPW's website where the public can access information, request DPW services and voice their complaints and compliments; coordinates customer service requests; coordinates and publicizes department volunteer events and programs; and writes and publishes departmental reports.

Bureau of Building Repair (BBR)

BBR provides quality professional construction, repair, remodeling, and facility management services to City-owned facilities. The Bureau provides emergency repair services 24 hours a day, ensuring that Police, Fire and other public safety operations are fully functional.  Learn more.

Bureau of Street Environmental Services (BSES)

Larry Stringer, Superintendent
BSES uses mechanical street sweepers, strategic litter receptacle placement, and city work crews to clean streets and curbs and keep the City graffiti-free. Sidewalk maintenance remains the responsibility of property owners; however, we use Green Machines to sweep sidewalks in heavily-used commercial corridors. BSES’s Urban Forestry unit is responsible for median maintenance; and tree planting and maintenance of city-owned trees.

Bureau of Street and Sewer Repair (BSSR)

BSSR is responsible for paving and street repair work, sewer repair, patch paving and pothole filling. In addition, BSSR repairs sidewalks and builds curb ramps.

Bureau of Construction Management (BCM)

The experienced engineers, inspectors and construction managers of BCM inspect and manage public construction projects for City agencies, such as the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, the Recreation and Parks Department, the Police Department and the Fire Department to name just a few. From construction of new buildings and renovation of small facilities to capital roadway improvements and infrastructure upgrades, BCM strives to deliver construction projects safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. Bureau of Street-Use and Mapping (BSM)

BSM ensures that city sidewalks and streets are safe and accessible by permitting and inspecting the use of the public right of way. The bureau also maintains the official city map. Bureau of Project Management (BPM)

BPM is responsible for delivering major capital projects through planning, design, regulatory approval, and the construction processes. The Bureau delivers a variety of projects on behalf of City agencies including the San Francisco Public Library, Recreation and Park Department, Public Utilities Commission, Department of Public Health, the Port of San Francisco, and the Police and Fire departments. Major capital projects are funded through local, state or federal public financing programs, and occasionally in combination with local matching or private funds. Capital projects are managed by a group of engineers, architects, and project managers. These managers are responsible for delivering projects with aggressive schedules and extensive review and approval processes.  Learn more...

Finance and Budget

Douglas Legg, Manager of Finance and Budget
The Finance and Budget Division is responsible for budget preparation, grants research and administration, and financial planning, capital planning, analysis and reporting. The Division develops financial resources and reports and prepares analyses to implement and control the department's projects and programs. Responsibilities include coordination and input of the annual budget, preparation of an annual Indirect Cost Plan, participation in bond authorizations and sales, development of departmental capital plans, grant proposals, and preparation of financial management reports.

Accounting

Jocelyn Quintos, Division Manager, Business Services Division
The Accounting Division reviews and enters the Department's accounting and purchasing transactions in the City's On-Line Accounting System, prepares grant billings, and performs account analyses. The Division generates on-line transactions dealing with the disbursement of funds and collection of revenues and their guidance through required procedures until final liquidation. The Division is responsible for Contract Administration that includes advertising for bids, distributing plans and specifications, receipt of bids, bid document processing, handling bid protests, contract awards, and ensuring compliance with insurance, bonding and licensing requirements.

Computer Services

Ephrem Naizghi, Acting Chief Information Officer (CIO)
The Computer Services Division designs, programs, operates, and maintains all Department-wide automated information. Services also include planning, software development, network and hardware installation and operations. The division provides comprehensive IBM AS/400, Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Are Network (WAN), and PC (and compatible) hardware, software, network, and support services.
